Closure of Peckforton Hall Lane – May 2024

You may know that United Utilities are working to modernise the Vyrnwy Aqueduct, which crosses Peckforton Hall Lane between Peckforton Hall Barns and Peckforton Farm. Although this doesn’t strictly affect the Parish of Spurstow because the actual work is in the Parish of Peckforton (by about 25metres !), it may affect you if you live on or use Peckforton Hall Lane.

Please see https://www.peckfortonparish.org.uk/news/ for more details.

Please see the below email from United Utilities relating to the upcoming closure of Peckforton Hall Lane.

Further to my email below,  I wanted to provide an update along with a copy of the letter which has been produced to inform residents along Peckforton Hall Lane, and surrounding area, of the upcoming planned road closure along Peckforton Hall Lane. We expect that this letter will begin to be received later this week, but we would also ask for you to share the contents of this email through your community links for greater awareness.

As per the letter and as mentioned below, we will be closing Peckforton hall Lane from 03 May 24 for a period of around 8 weeks, in agreement with the local highway’s authority. We understand the impact that works of this nature can cause and we hope that we will be able to re-open the road during periods of inactivity. The current programme suggests that there will be a period of between 2-3 weeks with limited activity towards the back end of May so we hope to re-open the road back up then, before closing again to complete the final highway works. As ever, we will be monitoring this closely and will continue to keep you informed of our progress, along with any development as to when the road will be re-opened.

In addition to the letter, I’ve attached a PDF of the planned closure to the lane, along with the formal diversion route south which follows the A49, onto Wrexham Road (A534) and along Stone House Lane. Alternative routes north will also be available to those with local knowledge of the area. Additional localised construction signage will also be erected either side of Peckforton Hall Lane to inform commuters of the works.

Within the map PDF attached, ive added arrows of the locations to indicate the points where physical barriers will be in place to close the road. There is only a small section of works along with highway that we will have physical presence – between Peckforton farm and Peckforton hall Barns will be closed off. Pedestrian access will still be maintained past our working areas and the remainder of Peckforton Hall Lane will be open (not physically closed off) and therefore all homeowners and commuters will still be able to get access up to the points indicated.

As a final note, the letter attached and the email commentary above states that the road will be closed from 03 May 24. Whilst this is the case, there will be no barriers erected to block the road off at the points indicated until the following Tuesday (7 th May), so the road will remain open for all access until then.

Should you have any immediate questions please do get in touch.

Kind Regards,

Harry Caton
